Please bring a notebook and a deck of Tarot cards (if you have them) to our Gathering.
If you don't have a deck DON'T WORRY!! I will share my screen with tarot images with the group. However, if you want to buy a deck - I suggest checking with a brick and mortar store in your area. Many have curbside pickup right now.
Below are some decks that I recommend. You can also do your own internet search to find a deck that resonates with you. There are so many decks to choose from!! There are independent tarot makers and mass produced decks. All have there own symbols, type of artwork, and mood. You can also find tarot decks at used book stores - if you go this route PLEASE count the cards before you buy. It is heartbreaking to get your new deck home and realize a card is missing.
Please feel free contact me if you have any questions before you buy! I am not familiar with all the decks out there - but I have seen many of them. Some are more difficult to read because of size (sorry ShadowScapes and and Fairy Tale Tarot) others maybe have a symbol system that is very different from the traditional archetypes (which isn't inherently bad). I recommend getting a deck that is few on words and heavy on symbols/pictures. You want to make sure that the minor cards have a rich story to them. Some just give you two arrows or three cups which isn't helpful in a reading and since we are working very intuitively the more dynamic the picture the better. If you need help with your purchase please contact me. Also, a couple of these decks are sold independently so you will want to be mindful of time when purchasing. Again - feel free to contact me at valerie@valerielouis.com.
Tarot Decks:
The Golden Tarot - The Golden Tarot is a collage Tarot deck, skilfully blending medieval and Renaissance artwork into whole Tarot scenes. Comes in a sturdy box with a companion book, and cards with gilt edges. One of my favorites.
The Light Seer's Tarot - Light Seer's Tarot has 78 inclusive, diverse cards of contemporary spiritualities, alternative lifestyles, and many different cultures. This is a modern take on the Rider Waite. Every card has a lot of detail.
The Modern Witch Tarot - This deck is a modern take on traditional tarot symbolism, inspired by fashion and modern witches from every walk of life. Love this deck for its diversity of representation regarding gender and race.
Melanated Classic Tarot - The Melanated Classic Tarot is an inclusive alternative to the traditional Rider Smith Waite Deck. The deck is the same imagery as the Rider Waite deck with the addition of all people in the deck are Black.
The Radiant Rider-Waite - n The Radiant Rider-Waite Tarot, is re-illustrated and updated Rider-Waite Tarot (The classic tarot deck). Compared to the original, these cards are much more luminously coloured and three-dimensional. A good deck that is very closely aligned with the original cards. This is one of my go to decks to refresh my learning.
The Morgan Greer Tarot - My favorite deck for readings! I love the colors and the close-ups of the people. I also like that every card has a picture, which is important when reading intuitively. The Morgan-Greer Tarot is a reworking of the Rider-Waite deck created in the 1970s. The cards are borderless, and the artwork has a lush, immediate feel. The deck definitely has a '70's vibe.
Luna Sol Tarot - A gorgeous multi-cultural deck. This is a new modern deck that has gentle symbolism that facilitates intuitive readings.
The Legacy of the Divine Tarot - Another of my favorite decks and the book that goes with it is wonderful. The Legacy of the Divine is a stunning 78-card deck from Ciro Marchetti, creator of the Gilded Tarot and Tarot of Dreams (two more to check out). It's roughly based on a Rider-Waite foundation, but rendered in a magical, highly realistic digital style.
Vanessa Tarot - The Vanessa Tarot is a cute and sassydeck inspired by pop culture heroines. It's light-hearted, fun, feminine and still very readable deck. Packaged with a small tin along with a booklet. This is a whimsical deck that is more modern.
Cat Tarot - The CatTarot is a 78-card deck of felines illustrated as famous figures from literature, history, TV and movies. The cast of characters is diverse, from Marilyn Monroe to Genghis Khan to Captain Nemo to Luke Skywalker. A charming, humorous, and beautifully illustrated tarot deck.
Wizards Tarot - The Wizards Tarot is a tarot deck and a school of magic, where the major cards feature the professors and the minor cards feature the students. It has photo-realistic digital art and a distinct Harry Potter feel.
Cosmic Tarot - Great images, wonderful colors. Picture on every card. This deck is filled with imagery and is good for intuitive readings.
Bonefire Tarot - The Bonefire Tarot is a vibrant reimagining of the Rider-Waite, painted in a style influenced by vintage tattoo art. It's inspired by the symbolism of the 'bone fire', a time for ritual celebration, cleansing, rebirth and renewal.
LLewellyn's Classic Deck - Llewellyn's Classic Tarot is a very readable fresh take on the Rider-Waite symbolism. It's been re-illustrated in a colourful, vivid and approachable style. Comes with a great guide book.
The Everyday Witch Tarot - The Everyday Witch Tarot has 78 whimsical tarot scenes of black-hatted witches going about their lives, set in a world of medieval fantasy mixed with modern reality. It's a charming deck of positive energies, serious intent, and light heart. This deck is a dream to read with - through lighthearted imagery you get depth in reading.
The Witches Tarot - The Witches Tarot overlays natural Pagan symbols on the traditional tarot structure. It is a digital collage deck.
Efflorescent Tarot - The Efflorescent Tarot (efflorescent meaning 'bursting into flower') is based on the Rider-Waite tradition and comprised of its own illustrated world of characters, objects and places. The 78-card deck is currently available from the artist through Etsy (in full-colour or black and white versions). I recommend the color version for our purpose.
Vivid Journey Tarot - The Vivid Journey Tarot is a 78-card Rider-Waite based tarot illustrated in a flowing, vivid artistic style. The cards are colourful and uncomplicated, easy to interpret, and have a warm and friendly energy.
